Now just hear me out. J. Cole caught a bunch of flack for bowing out the fight before it started. His legacy undoubtedly took a hit because of it. So where does he go from here? There is a way he can not only ‘reverse uno’ the apology but come out on top of both K. Dot and Drizzy. At the time of this article, he’s been dissed several times with both claiming ‘F*ck The Big 3’.
But the advantage Cole has right now is they are both unloading their best clips to guarantee the battle is won. Meanwhile Cole has only given a glimpse of what he’s capable of. What he should do is give it a few more days and let K. Dot and Drake wear each other down. Then the redeeming trump card would be a Pimp C’ esque “Knocking Doors Down” style record.
In this record, Pimp called out every rapper in Houston who has unnecessary beef with each other and reminds them that the only thing they are accomplishing is making the labels richer. Cole has established himself as more of the peace maker in this beef as it is. So the track would work well in his favor. But it wont be enough to just tell everyone to chill out. No, if he wants the record to hit properly, he will have to speak certain truths on both Drake and Kenny without completely dissing them. When it’s all said and done, the record should come across like a disappointed father who came home to see his kids fighting and puts them both in time out. We will play this fantasy scenario out as follows:
Top 5 points Cole SHOULD make to Drake.
- Kendrick’s Family – Cole should point out the obvious that K Dot’s in the wrong 100% for throwing the mans wife and kids into the beef. Take the angle in a clever way that at the end of the day, our queens are to be protected not disrespected.
- Control Verse Reaction – Lets be honest. There was no reason for Drake to have gotten bent out of shape over the control mention. Some see this as the very beginning of the feud. Cole should remind him that the track was a friendly reminder to keep hip hop competitive. It was out of line for Drake to feel any type of way about it.
- 50/50 split allegations – I’m sure Cole could creatively remind Drake of the old saying “Praise me in public, correct me in private”. If its true that Kenny is being taken for a ride, Cole should let Drake know to hit the mans line with resources to offer up that can help him out privately.
- Short jokes – Cole could remind him of his hypocrisy for making fun of Kendricks height when his mentor is Lil Wayne.
- Feeling the need to respond to everyone – Cole should let Drake know that hate comes with success. When you are the #1 guy, of course people are going to want that spot. Unfortunately sometimes that includes the people you were once friends/coworkers with. Cole should creatively remind Drake to stop focusing so hard on what everyone thinks of him.
Top 5 Points Cole SHOULD make to Kendrick
- Disrespecting Drakes family – Cole needs to just call a spade a spade. K. Dot stepped outside of the friendly Hip Hop battle when he dropped the meet the graham record. Telling the mans son his dad aint sh*t, talking to his parents like they raised a horrible person, comparing Drake to weinstein, etc was all out of character for Kendrick. Regardless of how his fanbase feels, Cole should put him in his place for stooping to that level. He should then remind him that if those allegations turn out to be false, it will speak more on Kendrick’s character than Drakes.
- Painting picture that Drake is a pedophile/addict/spiraling overall – Drake went low on Push Ups. K. Dot took it to Hell from that point forward. In this age of fake news and false allegations, those rumors could be pretty damaging for years to come. Cole should scold Kendrick for allowing the internet to hype him up and go to this level.
- Disrespecting a fellow black man – Cole should point out that if Kendrick is truly as pro-black as he claims, then every time you disrespect Drake for being biracial, you disrespect every other man in America in his position. Most have dealt with that hate for a large part of their childhood. K.Dots ‘white boy’ jabs only portray this is how America truly feels about them. You can’t be pro-black yet not willing to be accepting of every shade that comes with it.
- Being a studio activist – Cole could really hit Kendrick where it hurts here. Unlike him, we have proof of Cole actually marching out and protesting on various black issues when it happens. He can easily remind Kendrick that he never sees him out at any of these events.

5. Telling His Father His Son Should Die – Cole could further scold Kendrick by letting him know this was probably an all time low for him this entire feud. Don’t wish death on no one unless you are prepared for it to come to your front door. Make no mistake, Neither K. Dot nor Drizzy are likely to do anything of this magnitude because they have too much to lose. But their entourages are a different story. Drake’s goons are the Rap-A-Lot mafia and you don’t have to dig too deep to realize these guys have a feared reputation for a reason. Kendrick on the other hand has L.A. gang culture on his side which the same can be said. Those death threats can easily turn ugly very fast. Cole needs to put it in a way to make him think deeply of the ramification of his words.
How The Tracks Final Act Should Go
After giving harsh truths to both K. Dot and Drizzy, he should spend the last couple of bars letting them know how weak mentally they both became. Cole fell short as well but was strong enough to not let the public keep him there too long. He needs to remind them of how far they’ve both fallen from grace. People love to see blood spilled but never wanna help clean it up when its done. Regardless of their digs, remind them that they are the BIG 3. They need to be united, not divided. If Cole is able to articulate these points properly, there wouldn’t be a reply that either could give without looking foolish. The last two bars should be spent telling them to stop the B.S. and hit his line when they are ready to stop tap dancing for the public. If executed properly, this would essentially undo the apology stain while repairing his legacy all in one go.
